The 2F timing advance is really simple using springs and weights and a vacuum diaphragm. The timing isn’t perfect at idle at stock 7° because idle isn’t quite as important as where the engine really does it’s work (1800-2800 RPM). WebOct 24, 2024 · According to book the timing should be 8 deg btdc at 850 rpm. However, using the vacuum method it takes it all the way up to around 20 deg btdc, which is quite a difference! Throw in mechanical advance from the dizzy and its probably upwards of 40 deg of total advance once over 3500 rpm.
WebMay 24, 2012 · I read a thread about setting timing by using only a manifold vac gauge. Basicly what it said that you could advance the timing until you started to get a peak value. I tried it a bit but while advancing the timing, the engine idle rose quite high (to +2000 rpm) without reaching its peak value.
